I am a retired physician who specialized in psychiatry and have been practicing yoga for twenty plus years. Yoga was developed for the reduction of suffering through the self-realization of our full human potential. My goal is to incorporate this ancient wisdom practice of yoga along with modern medical interventions for health and wellbeing.  This evolving wellness journey is what SomaLumina is all about.

Medical Background

Marilyn Granger, M.D. is a trained psychiatrist who obtained her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and completed her psychiatry training from Brown University.

She has also obtained Level II training in the Emotional Freedom Technique.

Yoga Background

Dr. Marilyn Granger's first 300 hour yoga teacher training was through Triad Yoga Institute in 2004. Since then, she has been constantly learning yoga practices and philosophy from various institutions including the American Viniyoga Institute (AVI) led by Gary and Mirka Kraftsow, and the faculty at the Himalayan Institute under the leadership of Pandit Rajmani Tigunait.  Through AVI she completed a 500 hour teacher training, and 500 hour yoga therapy training. She is certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT).

Old and New

Her travels to the Andes in Peru has also introduced her to shamanic practices.

She has studied Holotropic Breathwork with Stan Grof and faculty.

Through her yoga training, shamanic exploration, study of Stan Grof's Holotropic Breathwork, and her medical profession, Dr Granger has become very much aware of the relationship between the body, mind, and spirit. She seeks to discover new ways of applying the ancient teachings of yoga into the modern world of medicine.
